Sharks are older than trees.
Sharks have existed for about 400 million years. Trees only showed up about 350 million years ago.
That means sharks are also older than Saturn's rings, older than the North Star, and older than dinosaurs by about 170 million years.
Since I'm gambling on what you don't know, here are a few more in rapid-fire:
1. There's a lake that mummifies animals.
Lake Natron in Tanzania is so alkaline - pH 10.5, almost as caustic as ammonia - that animals that die in it get calcified and preserved like stone statues.
2. You have a tongue print.
Just like fingerprints, no two tongue prints are the same. Your tongue is also the only muscle in your body not attached at both ends.
3. Light is old as hell before you see it.
The sunlight hitting your skin right now took 8 minutes to get from the sun to you, but the photon itself spent between 100,000 and 1 million years bouncing around inside the sun trying to escape.
4. Oxford University is older than the Aztecs.
Teaching started in Oxford in 1096. The Aztec Empire, as we know it, was founded in 1428. Oxford was already 300+ years old when they started building Tenochtitlan.
5. Before erasers, people erased pencil with bread.
Rubber erasers weren't common until the 1770s. Before that, artists and writers would ball up white bread to lift graphite.

I don't know what you know, so I'll play the odds with stuff almost nobody knows:
1. Cleopatra lived closer to you ordering pizza than to the pyramids being built.
The Great Pyramid was finished around 2560 BCE. Cleopatra died in 30 BCE. That means she lived about 2,500 years after the pyramids, and only about 2,050 years before you. To her, the pyramids were ancient history.
2. There are more trees on Earth than stars in our galaxy.
NASA estimates ~100-400 billion stars in the Milky Way. A 2015 study counted ~3 TRILLION trees on Earth. We win.
3. Your stomach blushes when you blush.
When blood rushes to your face, the capillaries in the lining of your stomach get more blood flow at the same time. You literally blush on the inside.
4. Scotland's national animal is the unicorn. And wombats poop cubes.
Both true. Scotland picked the unicorn in the 12th century because it was seen as untamable and pure. And wombats are the only animal known to produce cube-shaped poop - they stack it to mark territory so it doesn't roll away.
5. There is a color that the universe is, on average.
Astronomers at Johns Hopkins averaged the light from 200,000 galaxies. The average color of the universe is a beige-ish off-white. They named it "Cosmic Latte" - hex code #FFF8E7.
6. Oxford University is older than the Aztec Empire.
Oxford started teaching in 1096. The Aztec city of Tenochtitlan wasn't founded until 1325. When Oxford was already 200 years old, the Aztecs hadn't even started.

1. There is a town where it's illegal to die.
Longyearbyen, Norway, in the Arctic. It's so cold that bodies don't decompose in the permafrost - they just preserve, along with any viruses they had. So they banned people from being buried there, and terminally ill people are flown to the mainland.
2. T. Rex lived closer in time to YOU than to a Stegosaurus.
Stegosaurus died out about 150 million years ago. T. Rex lived about 66 million years ago. That's an 84 million year gap. You and T. Rex are only separated by 66 million years.
3. Octopuses can edit their own brain on the fly.
When it gets cold, they literally rewrite their own RNA to change how their nerve proteins work. It's like you being able to re-code your own software when the weather changes. Humans can barely do this at all.
4. There's a planet where it rains molten glass sideways.
HD 189733b. It's a deep cobalt blue planet, with 5,400 mph winds that blow silicate glass sideways. Weather forecast: 1,000°C and glass.
5. The inventor of the Frisbee became a Frisbee.
Walter Frederick Morrison invented the Frisbee. When he died, his family cremated him and molded his ashes into a memorial Frisbee. He literally became what he created.
6. Your stomach would eat itself if it didn't rebuild itself every 3 days.
Your stomach acid is strong enough to dissolve razor blades. The only reason it doesn't dissolve you is that your stomach lining completely replaces itself every 3-4 days.
Bonus testable one: You physically cannot hum while pinching your nose shut. Try it.
